Training

Using Google Earth for Virtual Fieldwork

This practical workshop shows educators and expeditioners how to create virtual fieldwork using Google Earth as a template. It involves hands-on experience with digital cameras and GPS units creating mini-fieldwork projects. Participants are then shown how this data can be transformed into a virtual journey using Google Earth.

A number of free courses for teachers in LEA-maintained secondary schools are being run January – March 2008.

The next course open to all is on Monday 12 May 2008 at the Royal Geographical Society in London.

All of the above courses can be booked through the Royal Geographical Society website.

Using Google Earth for Field Data
For those educators and field researchers who have attended the Using Google Earth for Virtual Fieldwork course, or are already experienced Google Earth users, this more advanced course shows how to incorporate field data into Google Earth. Participants will develop new skills in importing data into Google Earth, creating polygons and overlays, as well as creating graphs and basic mapping, which can be applied to a wide range of fieldwork scenarios.

The next course open to all is on Tuesday 13 May 2008 at the Royal Geographical Society in London.

The above course can be booked through the Royal Geographical Society website.
